Frequently asked questions
What size is a passport photo?
In the EU, the UK, Australia, Japan, India and most other countries it is 35×45 mm, with the head (chin to crown) 32–36 mm tall (29–34 mm in the UK). The USA uses 2×2 inch (51×51 mm), Canada 50×70 mm and China 33×48 mm.
Can I make a biometric passport photo with my phone?
Yes. Take a well-lit photo against a wall, upload it here and choose your country. The tool replaces the background and crops the head to the biometric size. Print it on a 10×15 cm sheet or use the file for online applications.
How do I print passport photos?
Download the print sheet and order it as a normal 10×15 cm (4×6 inch) photo print at a drugstore, supermarket kiosk or online photo service. Cut along the thin grey lines.
Which background colour do I need?
Most countries ask for a plain, light background: white or light grey. The UK asks for light grey or cream. Choose the colour your authority requires.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Background removal and face detection run in your browser; the photo never leaves your device.
Will my photo be accepted?
The size and head height follow the published rules, but offices also check lighting, sharpness, expression and glasses. Check your authority’s official guidance; some countries (for example Germany since 2025) require photos taken digitally at the office or a certified studio.
